By Jen Carpenter - The unconference movement has been gaining a lot of traction as of late. Instead of the traditional conference format, where attendees sit in a room and listen to a presenter for a good chunk of time, unconferences allow for a more open format that seems to result in a more interactive learning and sharing experience. While there have been a few unconferences in past years, the movement seems to be picking up. ERE's Social Recruiting Summit 2009, BarCamp and RecruitingBlogs.com's upcoming RecruitFest are just a few of the big unconferences that have garnered a lot of attention, not to mention the local-oriented unconferences that have been going on for years.

By Joel Cheesman - Drill Sergeant Chad must've forgotten to take his meds before our podcast this week, following up the SHRM conference. Either that, or the coffee was particularly strong that morning. Not happy with Monster.com's apparently feeble attempt to keep America working by issuing complementary job postings at the show, Chad said, "[Monster's promo] was the biggest load of crap I've ever heard. If Monster really cared, they would have changed their damned business model a long time ago and they wouldn't have been shedding 150 people yesterday." We also get around to things like Twitter's impact on jobs and the cesspool of duplicate job content on the Web. It's good to be back.

By Jen Carpenter - The first "unconference" aimed at social recruiting will bring together professionals in the recruiting world and involve attendees in a unique way. "So far, the most exciting part about the Social Recruiting Summit is that we promoted it almost entirely through social media," Scott Baxt, director of marketing at ERE, said. "We are eating the dog food, so to speak, and it tastes good."
