By Joel Cheesman - Times are tough. Job board owners are talking about 25-40 percent decreases in postings. Stories of layoffs at boards big and small abound. And it’s only November. December should be worse. Wait, did I say should be? I meant will be. Once the layoffs have hit their zenith, the money-at-all-costs mentality will creep in. My guess is this will include everything from AdSense all-over to Indeed backfill to data selling to SMS spam to the return of strategies seen in years past. Luckily, there's a bright side.

By Vanessa Dennis - It doesn't matter if you're Chinese, German, American, or French: mention the word "free," especially when its linked to something online, and the crowds will flock. This has especially been the case with eBay's international classifieds group Kijiji, which means "village" in Swahili. Spokesman Hani Durzy said that Kijiji was launched by eBay's New Ventures Group to bring a sense of community that is lacking in other local classified sites. That "sense of community" has been sweeping the free classifieds market in over 1000 cities and 26 countries since its launch in 2005. So how does a free classifieds site report $250 million in revenues in a single quarter?

I’m especially hoping to gain some clarity in regards to what it means to the employment space. Obviously, companies not hiring means a lot of vendors not making money. The best many players can hope for is holding steady while watching for falling rocks. Having been a victim in the last downturn, I know how ugly it can get.
