In my first post I said conflict is mother’s milk to a blogger. I also said I was going to feel free to be critical of Joel when (if) I felt that way. That said, I’m not stupid so I’ll start off by saying that I love Joel’s work and everything Cheezy and I hope he does not take offense (yup, the sine qua non of offense to come!)
About Joel’s ‘hate’ mail from ‘Edward’: Even knowing that Joel used ‘hate’ in its mildest possible meaning, I was surprised to find that “Edward” was not only mild, but downright naïve; saying he is
“just looking for some objectivity”
Imagine that Edward was just looking for some objectivity, out of Joel of all people! And not only that, but he hoped for some kind of reply from Joel:
“No hate. Not the type of reply I’d hoped for”
Maybe Joel is his hero!
He hits Joel for not wanting to serve others, but rather mostly himself.
“Of Joel, by Joel, for Joel… Who’s being served, the reader or your ego?”
Hello- are we still in America here? Well I’m not gonna just read on while this guy badmouths the United States of America!
Of course Joel has a big ego and it’s his JOB to investigate, find flaws, and otherwise gadfly his way thru the business day.
But Joel, do you really think this notion of yours is internally consistent?
“What a great use of company time, huh? I’m sure Monster Worldwide shareholders, management and customers are proud.”
Reading and commenting on Cheezehead should actually be a good use of company time- Ain’t that the point? I won’t say much about Secret Squirrel and tracking code…. but I just dont see how Monster figures into this, especially, since Joel is an equal opportunity critic and Edward does not focus on specific Monster complaints.
Middle school, indeed!
