And it just gets crazier…. |

Someone sent this to me today and I honestly just don’t get it! Here’s the email:
I just joined NotchUp’s private beta program and wanted to share it with you.
NotchUp is a new way to manage your career. Instead of YOU having to sort through hundreds of job postings, NotchUp enables top companies to find you and pay you to interview for available jobs. It’s 100% free to join and use.
If you’re happy at your job, and don’t want to look for anything new, you want to be on NotchUp.
There are two ways to become a NotchUp member: 1) You can apply for admittance to the network and wait for acceptance, or 2) You can be invited by a current member and start using NotchUp immediately. Because I invited you, you can join NotchUp without having to apply.
NotchUp is in private beta right now - to access the site, the username is launch, and the password is interview.
Click here to register for NotchUp and create your NotchUp profile. If the link doesn’t work, you can copy and paste the text below into your web browser:
It takes less than five minutes to register and create a NotchUp profile, and it’s the best time investment you’ll make all year.
Good luck with your career!
There are many things about this I don’t get - and if someone would like to enlighten me, my door is open. First, which employers are going to be lining up to pay for interviews? As for Seekers - if the economy continues on the present course - it could even be a good gig for many instead of donating blood. Second, what on earth does this line mean: If you’re happy at your job, and don’t want to look for anything new, you want to be on NotchUp. Yes, I get that there going after passive Seekers but seriously couldn’t this be presented in a more compelling manner! Third - I’m becoming a bit exhausted from creating profiles! So, unless something is VERY compelling, intriguing, and solid in offerings - its not worth it. And yes, they are out there - I joined three new Ning networks this past weekend. Fourth - I can’t wait for the tech geniuses to design a single source solutions for managing the numerous profiles I already have - will save that for another day. Ning is close for their network architecture but still have room for improvement as well.
So, what are your thoughts? Are employers going to pay for interviews? Would you register with this NotchUp? Look at the companies listed as already using NotchUp.

saw this coverage today. Looks like Google and a few other tech co’s are beta testing on the employer side.

As a member, you can invite others to the beta test. If you have spare invites, I’d love to check it out.
Cheers.

Ok, the link is easier to use now and will take you to the beta site. Look for the underlined username and password above to access. Also, including a screenshot of the home page so you can see current companies testing. Look forward to hearing your perspective after visiting. Susan

How strange that a startup publishes a powerpoint show - just 1 page - that requires QT and a LZW-decrompressor… Just to list the companies which use already NotchUp… Makes me sceptical - or did I miss the point? To get the most acceptance you should follow the KISS-principle: Keep it simple and smart!

Thanks for the TechCrunch coverage Tucker. Its quite amusing reading the comments. The bottom line is that attracting and acquiring talent is not a money game with a direct path - it may work in the short term but is not a sustainable strategy. Its about relationships and that’s why companies that truly understand this will be doing amazing things by taking advantage of what the social networking space has to offer. Watch for more on this!

Oh, and btw - it looks like the page link for notchup has been suspended. May be temporary, probably not. If you didn’t get to check it out wait for the launch later this month - at least that’s what the site said.
